Transforming Lives

May 15, 2020 | Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Dear Bible Way Church Family,

As you are certainly aware by now, there are plans being formed at both the State and local levels to begin reopening businesses and organizations. While our leadership has already begun developing our own plan to reopen our services, our church will continue to seek God in prayer and plans to comply with the guidelines and restrictions we are given. As leaders our greatest concern is serving and protecting you in that process. We want to re-open the church for worship in the near future in a way that ensures the health and safety of every person who walks through our doors. For that reason, all in-person services will remain suspended for at least the remainder of the month of May, at which time we will reevaluate conditions, review current state and local guidelines and make additional decisions at that time.
We realize many of you may have thoughts, concerns and ideas. We can’t express enough how important it is to hear from you. We recognize that this experience is all new to each one of us, and we will need to show grace and love to one another in how we work through this together to best serve the whole body of Christ. This truly is a time of testing to see whether we will prove faithful in our mission of “Transforming Lives”.
As we seek God’s wisdom in how to move forward, we are so thankful for the Bible Way Church family, and long to return to being together again face-to-face as soon and safely as we can.
I have included some information below that might be helpful.

All Bible Way Sumter events, classes, and services on-site have been canceled through the month of May. For the time being, Sunday morning, Bible Study and Kidz Konnect services will be live streamed on Facebook Live. We are evaluating all future events and will continue to update this page with the latest information.

We will be live streaming the following on Facebook Live:

Sunday Morning messages every Sunday at 10:00am.
Bible Studies every Wednesday at 6:30pm.
Kidz Konnect every Wednesday at 7:30pm

The Ministers have a weekly conference call on Mondays at 6:30pm.

Many of you may have questions about how long we will continue to gather and worship online, as well as when we will be back to “normal” in the days ahead. While there are still many things that remain unknown, our Senior Leadership Team is working on the details of a prudent and staged process for moving our church forward in these uncertain times. Stay connected here for updates.

We understand that during this unprecedented time in our country we will face many challenges and difficulties. We will continue to lift up your needs and concerns through prayer. Please let us know how we can pray for you! You can submit your prayer requests by selecting the “contact us” link on our website’s homepage or by emailing your request to

We are so thankful for those who continue to give during this time. If you are wondering what options are available, there are several ways you can continue to give:

Give online through our website
Text “bibleway” to 803-212-0410
Mail your check to PO Box 2036, Sumter SC 29151
Drop off your tithe and offering at the church on Wednesdays from 10am-12pm
I also hope you know that your church is here for you and we are whole-heartedly committed to doing whatever we can to help our church stay connected during this challenging time. Of course, none of us has ever been taught how to lead a church through a pandemic, nor are we experts in how to do ministry while in isolation.

But what we lack in expertise, we more than make up for in our desire to be leaders that, more than anything, wants to lead us faithfully in worship each week, to keep our church family connected, and to find creative ways for our congregation to continue to Transform Lives even while in separation from one another.

So please let us know how we can serve you, help you, or be of assistance to you during this season of quarantine. Most of all, I want you to know: You are loved. You are missed. You are prayed for every day. We will get through this together. And we will persevere!

Grace & Peace,

Bishop Belton

March 15, 2020 | Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

At Bible Way Church of Sumter, the safety and security of our members, visitors and local communities are our utmost priority and our prayers are with those impacted by the Coronavirus.

We are closely monitoring the rapidly evolving outbreak of the COVID-19 (the coronavirus) and its impact on the community and are taking action based on guidance from public health experts, the CDC and prayer to ensure we make responsible decisions.

As a result, will be suspending our Monday Night and Wednesday Night services until further notice. As of now, OUR SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT 10:00 A.M. Sunday School classes are also cancelled. Additional updates will be communicated via our social media platforms, text alerts and our website.

Our message remains the same – follow the recommendations of our healthcare professionals, be considerate of others by checking on your neighbors, family and friends, and place your trust in God, who is our protector, healer, provider, comforter and sustainer.

Below is a communication from the Superintendent of Sumter Schools:

Per order of the Governor, all schools in Sumter School District will be closed due to the coronavirus for two weeks beginning Monday, March 16 through March 31, 2020. All school activities are suspended.

During this time, teachers will offer an alternative pathway to learning, which is online instruction beginning Monday, March 16. Parents of students in grades first through twelve who do not have access to an electronic device may retrieve a Chromebook from their school on Monday, March 16 from 3-5 PM; Tuesday, March 17 from 8-10 AM, 12-2 PM, and 3-5 PM; and Wednesday, March 18 from 8-10 AM and 12-2 PM. Parents of prekindergarten and kindergarten students may retrieve educational packets of information during these times as well. Although online instruction begins Monday, students who do not have immediate access to a device will not be penalized. If a family does not have access to WIFI at home, they may access WIFI in the parking lots of the schools to download and submit assignments.

Sumter School District will continue to provide students with a meal during the district’s two-week closure. Through a snatch-a-snack process, breakfast and lunch will be distributed Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 20 in the bus pick-up area at each school with breakfast available from 7 to 9 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students must be present at the time of pick up as no food will be consumed on site. Information regarding the distribution of food the following week will be communicated.

If families experience difficulties regarding the ability to retrieve a device or a meal, please contact your school’s principal.

Please check our website at and our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages for further updates.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we continue to work together to ensure continuity in the educational process of our children as well as the safety, health, and well-being of our students, staff, and families.

For the Children,

Dr. Penelope E. Martin-Knox

MARCH 13, 2020 | Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

With heightened awareness and public concerns regarding the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), we want to assure you that we are carefully monitoring this situation at Bible Way Church of Sumter and are taking a proactive approach to ensure our environments are clean, safe and that your health and well-being is a top priority.

At Bible Way, we are very intentional about providing a clean and safe environment for you and your family. We have already enhanced our cleaning procedures. This includes a comprehensive cleaning of all restrooms and high touch surfaces including doorknobs, faucets, handrails, etc. We also have hand sanitizers in visible places throughout the building.

We encourage you to wash your hands frequently and to refrain from simple actions such as shaking hands, touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands. Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue. Also, if you or your children are ill, please stay home.

At this time, we are following the guidelines of the CDC and the overall risk to the general public remains low.

Pastor Belton will be preaching this Sunday and we are expecting a mighty move of God. We hope to see you this weekend. Choose FAITH over fear! 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
